Rudge was sitting in the cockpit, familiarizing himself with the extensive controls of the Corvette class ship. Meanwhile, Madame Leota was in the mid-level operations center. She kept watch via the holographic display as the Mayor’s cobbled together fleet from Earth landed in the Dangerous Night’s hangar bay. Outside, the remaining single-seat T-Crafts began magna-connecting to the designated exterior landing spots above the entryway hatches.

“Madame, all the Forgotten crafts are now onboard, including my vehicle with your gear stored away and the transport carrying the hostages. You may proceed with securing the cargo area,” comm’d Mazon to Leota.

“I’ve sent you the updated security codes. Sync with the ship’s OS and close the hangar on your end. Once you’re able to exit, proceed to the operations center on sub-level two. Have a few of the Fantasy clan take the hostages to the brig on sub-level four,” said Leota as she closed the comm. Accessing the control panel on the holo-table, she called up the connection to the cockpit. “Rudge, have you been taking advantage of your free time since you let the captain go. Or just staring at the twirling garbage outside,” said the Madame condescendingly.

“I’m in the requested position, Madame,” Rudge calmly replied.

Leota chuckled at her compatriot’s lack of emotion in the wake of her needling him. “That’s good. I’ll join you shortly. In the meantime, pull up our navigational program on the HIREZ and have the computer plot a speed jump to Europa.”

Madame Leota locked both doors, double-checking the room’s communications equipment to ensure all available comm mics were off. Convinced she had the privacy she needed, Leota opened up a direct comm and said, “Yo, Vidia, do you copy?”

“One second,” replied Vidia from the comm’s speaker. “Sorry, I just finished escorting these two Ximians. I’m in one of the crew quarters. By the way, nice mess you made of the crew, have fun, did we?”

“After that appetizer before I left, I needed a meal,” Leota replied with a devilish chuckle. “And, yeah, those clowns didn’t stand a chance. I’m ticked off Rudge let the captain get away.”

“I think you caused enough damage, don’t you?”

“I guess,” replied Leota, sounding slightly defeated. “Listen, get settled in the captain’s quarters. I’ll tell the runts that with Edii dead, I’ve assigned you to take his place.”

“Ugh, you didn’t kill him too, did you?”

“No, Vidia. Jeez, it’s like you don’t even know me,” Leota said, her words oozing sarcasm.

“Please, like that’s beneath you. Give me a break, Leota.”

“Maybe, but, like I said, I’ll meet you in the captain’s quarters once we start the jump.”

“I assume with the appetizer comment you took care of things before we left?” asked a curious Vidia.

“Just like we planned,” Madame Leota replied confidently.
